Well, it's been dead around here for a while. I guess it just isn't going to catch on. Sucks because there was a ton of money and time invested in this place. Has all the potential to be the most resourceful inspection website around, but if it isn't used then what's the point? Anyways, thanks to all that have contributed so much. The lights will be off soon....Matt

I registered to take the API 936 examination in March. I am self studying and looking for input from anyone who has taken the exam.

Any particular areas I should focus on while studying?

Any questions that were suprising?

I am doing the basic reading, underlining and reading again. I have some experience with refractory but these test seem to get harder as you get older. Any help is appreciated.

Ok, been away from the board for a while. How did the exam go for you? Tough? Easy? Are the results back yet?

I have considered taking the exam, just have not moved on it. I have also considered trying to go to a prep class before taking it. Good luck in any case.

The biggest difficulty with the exam is that some of the references in the body of knowledge are out of print. When you do find the required references trying to find useful information in the text is difficult. The material is mostly outdated. The required "ACI 547.1R-89 State of the Art Report Refractory Plastics and Ramming Mixes” has information that has not been updated since you guessed it 1989. The actual exam is basic API with 75 multiple choice questions. I tried to read everything 3 times before the test and to pick out what looked like potential test questions and write out notes for review. I don't have the results of the examination. How do they stretch out optically scanning answer sheets for 8 weeks?Huh

API is now e-mailing examination notice letters. They e-mailed my examination notification to some other applicant and sent me someone else’s. The API Examination contractor sent out an apology letter indicating that "technology let them down".

So now that my rant posted. If you want to take the exam send me your e-mail address and I will send you the difficult to find documents in PDF.
